BvK LaB uses light to unravel the structures of biologically important proteins and protein complexes for understanding the mechanisms of biological phenomena

About

RESEARCH

graphical abstract.png

The research in BvK LaB comprises molecular biology, recombinant or native protein production and purification, protein characterization, sample preparation for either crystallography or electron microscopy, structure modelling, biochemical measurements (enzyme kinetics), and complementary techniques such as cross-linking mass spectrometry, SAXS (Small Angle X-ray Scattering), and CD (Circular Dichroism) Spectroscopy

The current research projects are;

1. Structural investigation of chaperone and protease complexes that are involved in bacterial membrane protein quality control.

This project is funded by

TUBITAK 2232

International Outstanding Researchers Program

2. FunTomP (Functionalized Tomato Products) project, funded under Section 1 Agrofood Value Chain of the PRIMA Program, which supports projects on agriculture, food, agro-food chain, and water themes in the Mediterranean Area within the scope of Horizon 2020. In this project,

we will functionalize tomato products with proteins extracted

from sugar beet leaves, a waste of the beet sugar industry.

3. Development of HoxA9-Pbx1/3 Protein-Protein Interaction Inhibitors with Anticancer Effect and Peptidomimetic Structure, funded by TÜBÄ°TAK ARDEB 1001 program, in a collaboration with Dr. Hacer KarataÅŸ Bristow from Istanbul Medipol University

4. Production of Membrane Protein Complexes involved in Membrane Protein Translocation and Quality Control funded by TUBÄ°TAK 1002 Program

5. Structural and functional studies of nitrogen fixation proteins funded by TUBÄ°TAK 3501 and 1001 Programs

6. Artificial intelligence based development of peptide inhibitors as potential antibiotics funded by TUBÄ°TAK 2516 Korea Bilateral Cooperation Program, in a collaboration with Seoul National University
